Our school is caleed Kohtla-Järve Maleva Põhikool.
In Estonian language the word Kohtla is derived from the Estonian word - koht- the place, the word Järve means the place with a lake, the word Maleva is derived from the Estonian word meeskond which means a team and also Maleva is the name of the street where our school is located, põhikool means the elementary school.
Here you can see our school on the map.
Our school is a unique one because here are three departments: Estonian, Russian and Immersion. Pupils of different nationalities study in our school. In Immersion Classes children from Russian speaking families study in Estonian language. Previously our school was in a small building but now it is in a modern one with the new swimming pool, the cosy canteen, nice classrooms and a library. Students of our school enjoy extracarricular work, they take part in subject olympiads, work in projects, write letters to pen pals, make research works with the teachers, organize holidays and keep school traditions.
